Mozart as a Medicine?

By Luna Arja

Music can effect your brain, move your emotions, but most importantly it makes you smarter, or at least listening to Mozart makes you smarter by boosting scores on one portion of the IQ test. This is just a small advantage of listening to Mozart, but it could improve short-term memory, improvement on certain performance of certain kinds of mental tasks.

Scientist did an experiment that indicated that listening to Mozart’s piano sonatas produces significant short-term enhancement of spatial-temporal reasoning in college students. One of the surprising experiments I came across of a male diagnosed with Status epilepticus: is a life-threatening condition in which the brain is in a state of persistent seizures. Continuous seizures present 62% of the time, whereas during exposure to Mozart’s music this value fell to 21%. That experiment indicated shot term effect of mozart’s music, but what about the long effect?

Another experiment was done on an 8 years old girl, who was also diagnosed of status epilepticus, she was exposed to the music 10 minutes for each hour of the day when she was awake. Results were, seizures had fallen from nine in four hours to one in four hours. In the following day number of attacks fell into two in seven and half hours!

Beneficial of Mozart’s Music didn’t end, and I wasn’t even exposured to all of them, but the ones I’m mentioning are the ones that dragged my eyes to attention, and found them fascinating! I mean everyone wishes to be smarter, and boost their IQs!

Here’s another interesting result of Music, “Early childhood exposure to classical music has a beneficial effect on mental development”. A well respected writer, wrote a book about the Mozart effect for children which included that Mozart’s music focus on particular activities such as “deep rest and rejuvenation,” “intelligence and learning,” and “creativity and imagination.”

Regardless of all these benefits, I recommend you to start listening to Mozart and many others like Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven….etc, Personally I enjoy every moment of listening to classical music, these is a certain movement of emotions that its capable of triggering!
