16.1 - Samaee Nahawand
Learn the third and fourth verse of Samaee Nahawand on the Oud
Tareq:
Hello my name is Tareq Al Jundi from izif.com. today in lesson number 16 we will continue he third and fourth verse of Samaee Nahawand by the Jordanian composer Amer Madi.
Let us look at the 3rd verse, as I told you this verse is written using Nakreez scale. Let us try to read it 1 2 3 Do Sol Fa Sol La Si Do Si La Sol Fa Sol Mi Re Mi Do Re Do Re Mi Fa Mi Sol Fa Mi Fa Sol rest Do Si La Si La Sol La Sol Fa Sol Fa Sol Fa Mi Mi Re Mi Do Do Sol Do Mi Do Mi Sol rest Do Re Do Re Mi Fa La Sol Sol Fa Sol Mi Fa Mi Fa Mi Re Do Re Mi Re Do Si Do La rest Sol Sol Fa Sol La Si Sol La Si La Sol Fa Mi Sol Fa Sol Mi Re Mi Do Si la Sol Mi Sol Fa Mi Re Mi Do rest.
Let s start playing it slowly, the first 4 bars are simple, the last four bars we have half position and other positions in there which we will discuss . 1 2 3 *Play* rest *Play*this ornament *Play* rest. Nothing new here except this ornament *Play*like this. Let us look at the 5th bar in this Samaee , Do *Play* Re Do Re Mi *Play* Fa with first , Fa La Sol Sol Fa Sol Mi *Play* ,we can go back with the second, but I want you to use the first , which will sound like this DO Re Do Re Mi Fa La Sol Sol Fa Sol Mi , why? So that I can play the Fa in the next bar with the fourth, Fa Mi Fa Mi Re like this Mi Fa Mi Re *Play*, no extension here , *Play* this is ♭ Mi and this is Fa, which will become Fa Mi Fa Mi Re Do Re Mi Re Do SI Do La then Sol Sol Fa Sol La Si Sol La Si La Sol Fa Mi , I can play it in half position or normal position , Sol Fa Sol Mi Re Mi Do , here we must play normal position Si La Sol Mi Sol Fa Mi Re Mi Do . let me play the last fourth bars continuously 1 2 3 *Play* 2 3 1 2*Play* 1 2 3 *Play* notice the ornament I played which east h Glissando from this ♮ La 1 2 3 1, from ♮ La I played 1 2 , Es became ♭ La with Glissando then came one Sol, Sol *Play*which became like this *Play*1 2 3 1 2 *Play* I can play it in half position *Play*
Let us play the third verse continuously 1 2 3 *Play* rest *Play* notice how I held my hand still *Play* 2 3 *Play* 2 *Play* 2 3 1 2 *Play* this concludes the third verse, moving on to the fourth verse.
Doltoran scale that we learned was 1 2 1 2 1 2 3 1 2 1 2 1 2 3 , this is the opposite. As we have written here 1 2 3 1 2 1 2 1 2 3 1 2 1 2 1 2. Notice that the triplet is the same, it is down up down, and the dual Is down up down up. So it will be down up down down down *Play* this is called Dor Hindi scale. If we read it 7/8, as if we are reading very slowly Ta Tati Tati Ta Ta Ta Ta Ta Ta Ti Ta Ta Ta Ta Ta Ti Ta Tati Ta Tati Ta Ti Ta, like this. It is 1 2 3 1 2 1 2 *Play* if I played the Do minor cord 1 2 3 1 2 1 2 or 1 2 3 1 2 1 2 *Play* like this *Play* Do Do Si Do Re Mi Do Sol Fa La Sol Fa Mi Si La Sol Sol Fa Mi Mi Fa Sol Mi Re Mi Re Do again Ta Tati Tati Ta Ta Ta Ta Ta Ta Ti Ta Ta Ta Ta Ta Ti Ta Tati Ta Tati Ta Ti Ta, same phrase is repeated in the treble. I want you to practice it by doing 1 2 3 1 2 1 2 1 2 3 1 2 1 2 . play it slowly at first *Play* the picks are obvious, and now we will continue the remaining of this verse.
