As was the case in the previous lesson, Mr Tareq gives daily hand exercises using Chromatic scale and continues to explain the important hand exercises and moves .on to giving exercises to strengthen the fourth finger when playing the Oud __ Hello my name is Tareq Al Jundi from i3zif.com. and today in lesson #17 we will take a few more exercises for our right and left hand to add to our daily exercises. Let us look at the signals we have, Ta, if it had a slash through it while it is on Sol note, this means we need to play it Tati , if Ta had 2 slashes it means we should play it Ta Fa tiFi from the same note, so the first one would be *Play music*, second one *Play music*, third one if we had 3 or 4 slashes, it will be played as pulsing *Play music*like this. Let us look, we have an exercise on the Chromatic scale, I will remind you , it is the one where between each 2 notes we have 1/2 note,if we start at La cord *Play music*, this exercise is #1, first note is La *Play music* then ♭ Si *Play music*, third one is ♮ Si , *Play music* then Do *Play music*, then Do #*Play music*, notice how playing the chromatic scale is not *Play music* like this, on the contrary, *Play music* till Do #. First exercise, we will play Tati on each note, it will be *Play music* on La string, now from Re *Play music* next from Sol *Play music* next Do *Play music* and back from Mi to La. So the exercise will be like this *Play music* notice how I place my fingers, when I want to play the previous note I only lift my finger, *Play music*not *Play music* the second exercise, same thing but with 2 slashes, Ta Fa TiFi *Play music* the third exercise, it is pulsing 4 strikes on each note *Play music* we need to count internally *Play music* this is a very important exercise for the right hand, and left hand. But sometimes we need to practice pulsing, hold the Oud for about a minute and start *Play music* faster *Play music* now pulse *Play music* hold a stop watch for about 2 minutes of pulsing *Play music*like this *Play music* and play scales *Play music* like this Last exercise is a variation on the same process, we will play the chromatic scaleTati Tati, down up *Play music* until Mi and back *Play music*play it ascending and descending *Play music* first we play slowly, but then it must be like *Play music* those exercises help my right and left hand to play simultaneously very accurately . last exercise for this lesson is a practice for the fourth finger, and we know that it is the weakest finger for all players, or most of them, it is the last one to gain strength. Let us utilize it for the chromatic scale , *Play music* like this. The exercise has ♮ Si and ♭ Si *Play music* down up, ♮ Si is down, and ♭ Si is up *Play music* then ♮ Si , La *Play music* ♮ Si, ♭ La *Play music* ♮ Si , Sol *Play music* this exercise will be applied on all strings, or in other words, 4th then 3rd, *Play music* 4th then 2nd *Play music*4th then 1st *Play music* 4th then 0 *Play music* previous string *Play music* and same process on the previous string *Play music* I will slow down a bit, because you will notice some stiffness in this muscle, so when you finish always extend your hand and relax it in this manner, to loosen up . now look here *Play music* Sol string *Play music* those exercises are the ones that will live with the player , everyday to warm up both hands, right and left, exactly like a football player, he can't play a game without warming up and preparing his muscles to run, to attack.. same thing, our muscles will not be ready to play a fast longa if we hadn't warmed them up. So those exercises are very important, at this stage we need to give them 20 – 30 minutes everyday, then we start playing and you will notice the difference.
