17 - Nam Dam'ee Min Oyouni Acrostic
In lesson 17 we learn an application on the concept of syncopation which is Nam Dam'ee Mn Oyouni Acrostic by Sayyed Darwish. Tareq starts by explaining the scale and noting the forms used in the note. He starts reading rhythmically and playing gradually parts of the acrostic while noting the direction of the pick and the notes' periods. he concludes by playing the entire acrostic, beginning to end, in the required speed while applying some ornamentation.

Hello my name is Tareq Al Jundi from i3zif.com. today in lesson no. 17 we will learn the acrostic called Nam Dam’ee Mn Oyouni. Let us take a look at this acrostic which is an application on es ta ti note which we learned in the last lesson. I will try to read this acrostic, which as you can see is Hijaz scale, we have ♭ Si and ♭ Mi, we also have a sign that I will explain to you which is the second sign in the first bar, as you see is a flipped ♭, which we will discuss now. Let us try to read it, 1 2 3 es Do Si Do Re Re Mi Fa Sol Fa Mi Re Do Mi Re, Re Do Si La Sol Si Do Re Re Re Mi Fa La Sol Sol Fa Fa Mi Mi Re Re, Do Si Do Re, from the top, Re Mi Fa Sol Fa Mi Re Do Mi Re, Re Do Si La Sol Si Do Re Re Re Mi Fa La Sol Sol Fa Fa Mi Mi Re Re. let us look at the first part, the flipped ♭ sign means quart-♭, which gives the same significance of having the quart ♭ which is ♭ with a dash, so if you see a ♭ with a dash, we know that it is a quart ♭. So the quart ♭ Si here, which is the same significance of the flipped ♭ , it gives the same result. So this is a quart ♭, which means the Si here will be like this … so the first bar will be like this es Do Si Do Re Re… let us play it with the metronome, 1 2 3 …. Es Re Do Si La Sol … again , 1 2 3 es Do Si Do Re Re Mi Fa Sol Fa Mi Re Do Mi Re Re Do Si La Sol Si Do Re Re Re Mi Fa La Sol Sol Fa Fa Mi Mi Mi Re Re. let us stop here.. now in the second part of the lesson, we will try to read along with the metronome, and we will notice alteration sign, in the first bar we have # Fa which we already know is part of Hijaz scale, then we have ♮ Mi , or becarre Mi …. Let us try to read 1 2 3 Sol Sol Sol Fa Mi Fa Sol Fa Sol Fa Mi Re Si Do Re Re Do Si La Sol Si Do Re Re Re Mi Fa La Sol Sol Fa Fa Mi Mi Re Re, again, Sol Sol Sol Fa Mi Fa Sol Fa Sol Fa Mi , Mi stays ♮ Mi, then Re Si Do Re Re Do Si La Sol Si Do Re Re Re Mi Fa La Sol Sol Fa Fa Mi Mi Re Re. here the ♭ Mi in the bar before last, the Mi here is ♭ Mi , no longer ♮ Mi, because the ♮ Mi was only effective in the bars it was in. let me try to read and play Sol Sol Sol Fa Mi Fa Sol Fa Sol Fa Mi Re Si Do Re Re Do Si La Sol Si Do Re Re Re Mi Fa La Sol Sol Fa Fa Mi Mi Re Re. I will repeat without reading, only playing…
Now repeat from the top…. This concludes this acrostic, I will try to play it beginning to end with its actual tempo without stopping.. 1 2 3… as you can see, what I did was that I used this cord, Do cord that I explained in the first lesson, and I filled in some notes, I filled in the es.. In our music we use this method a lot, we use Taksim… this is Re, and this is Re .. this cord is the Do, and this is Re.. this is Do, and this is Re.. you will come across this method a lot… I used this cord to fill in notes.. the first es I replaced with a Do… this es I replaced with a Re… like this.. at the last bar of the first line… the next bar or the beginning of the second part, I used Sol cord.. notice I replace the es with the same note following the es, but using base cord. I used Sol here as well.. here I use Re.. here also I use Re… this is the first method of embellishment where I use base cords to replace es.. this concludes the acrostic. Practice very well and listen to many of its recordings, because this is a classic acrostic that is very popular in Arabic music.. in the next lesson we will learn another application on es ta ti which is about syncopation.
