1.1 - Ta TiFi and Ta Fa Ti signs
Mr. Tareq Al Jundi starts by explaining a new rhythmic sign : Ta TiFi which is derived from Ta Fa TiFi. He starts reading and rhythmically playing along with the metronome. In this lesson, Mr. Tareq continues to introduce us to a new rhythmic sign which is the Ta Fa Ti explaining how this sign is derived as well. Mr. Tareq Al Jundi recommends the students to practice these new signs and excel at the exercises included within the lesson before moving on to the next part. __ Hello, my name is Tareq Al Jundi from i3zif.com. Today in the first lesson of the second course in Oud, we will be introduced to a new musical sign and we will conduct applications. In this course, we will notice the appearance of new notes, and new forms of the pick. Sometimes we will learn the rule then break it. We will also find more applications in this course than the first one, which will require training using similar methods, along with the metronome in order to be in control. We will notice that we will develop based on our training and concentration in class. Take a look, in the first part of our lesson, we will learn a new sign which is Ta TiFi. The Ta TiFi as you can see, starts with the croche and follows with 2 of the double croche. This note is basically derived from Ta Fa Ti Fi, we added a tie between the first 2 notes, which transforms it from Ta Fa TiFi to Ta TiFi. It will be like this Ta Ti Fi, Down Down up , as you can see the signs, Down which is presented by the sign another down, then the up which is presented by the symbol . let us see if we want to play the song with the metronome, what will it look like: 1 2 Ta TiFi Ta TiFi Ta TiFi , down down up down down up, Ta Tifi Ta TiFi. Let us try to read this exercise rhythmically with the metronome. If we look at it , it is Ta TiFi Ta TiFi TaTi Ta, Ta TiFi Ta Fa tiFi ta tifi ta tifi es ti ta. 1 2 ta tifi ta tifi tati ta, ta tifi ta fa tifi ta tifi ta tifi es ti ta. every ta tifi is down down up, 1 2. Es ti ta, again, down down up down down up down up down, ta tifi ta fa tifi ta tifi ta tifi es up down. This is the rhythmic exercise on the Ta Tifi, on the 52 metronome. Let us look at the second exercise, also written using Ta tifi, on AL Ajam scale. We have an ascending pattern. Look at the first bar, we have ta tifi ta tifi, same thing follows. I will read the notes for you: do do re do do re re re mi re re mi mi mi fa mi mi fa fa fa sol fa fa sol, sol sol la sol sol la, la la si, la la si, si si do si si do, we can read it a bit slower, like this do do re, do do re re re mi re re mi. as you can see that ta tifi is always down down up, so the first bar will be …. *play music* our hand must be steady on do, just as the note says, and same as we learned in the first course, it will be ta tifi ta tifi, the second bar is re re mi re re mi. the third bar is down down up down down up, fourth bar fa fa sol, my fingers are steady, then sol sol la, la la si, my fingers must stay steady. Now we have si si do, I will twist my hand like this, si si do si si do, tilt it. And don’t remove my hand from si so as not to have this, this is wrong. It has to be si si do si si do. The exercise will be , from the top without a metronome. I will play it a bit slowly *play music* I will try to play it a bit quicker every time until I reach metronome tempo of 52. 1 2. *play music* this sign, you will have to practice it very well because we will have an application on it. And now we will take its opposite. The opposite of this sign is ta fa ti. As you can see it is 2 double croches and then a croche. We call this the ta fa ti, it will be played down up down, that one was, the ta tifi down down up, ta tifi ta tifi, this one will be the opposite down up down, ta fa ti, ta fa ti ta fa ti. If we play it continuously, it will be down up down, down up down. Notice the emphasis is on the first beat, which should be down. How did we derive this sign, same method, from ta fa tifi, we tied the last 2 double croche and combined their time resulting in ta fa ti , like thi. Let us read this exercise rhythmically, 2/4, ta fa ti ta, ta fa ti tati, ta fa ti ta fa ti tati ta. Let us play it with the metronome or read it, 1 2 ta fa ti ta, ta fa ti tati ta fa ti ta fa ti tati ta, with the oud 1 2 ,again, ta fa ti ta, ta fa ti tati, ta fa ti ta fa ti tati ta, again down up down down, down up down down up, down up down down up down, down up down. This is the first exercise on the absolute cord of sol. If we look here, we have the same exercise we learned on the ta tifi, we played on the ta fa ti. Its opposite, but also a repetitive pattern. We have in the first bar : ta fa ti ta fa ti do do re do do re. same thing: down up down down up dow. Then re re mi re re mi , then we have mi mi fa mi mi fa, fa fa sol fa fa sol, sol sol la sol sol la, la la si la la si, si si do si si do note the si. Our fingers are steady. Let us read it with the metronome with higher speed do do re do do re, re re mi re re mi, mi mi fa mi mi fa, fa fa sol fa fa sol, sol sol la sol sol la, la la si la la si, si si do si si do. This tempo might be a bit fast at first, but I will play to get a feel of how it sounds like, only the first bar, the second bar, the third bar, the fourth bar, the fifth bar. Notice how I repeated each bar to master it. Now I will play it all with the metronome: 1 2.. those 2 signs , we must practice them very well because we will have an application on Nahawand Doolab in the second part of the lesson.
